To Trade Secretary Liz Truss and Prime Minister Boris Johnson

Petition text

Introduce meaningful ways for the public to be given as much say as big business during trade deal negotiations.

Why is this important?

The day after he was elected, Boris Johnson said that he would lead “the people’s government”. But his government has just given corporate interest groups and big businesses “unprecedented access” to trade talks through new "Trade Advisory Groups". Meanwhile, groups representing the public have been shut out.

Trade deals could affect everything from the NHS to the quality of the food on our plates. But without being involved, it will be much harder for us to find out what’s being negotiated, how it will affect us and how we can have our say.

With trade talks taking place right now, it’s important that the government introduces meaningful ways for the public's voice to be heard, so that we are given as much say as big business during trade talks.
