To Prime Minister Boris Johnson

We call on you to refuse to recognise the winner of the US presidential election until all the votes have been properly counted. Democracy hangs in the balance. Do everything in your government’s power to ensure that the wishes of US voters are respected.

Why is this important?

Huge numbers of votes still to be counted, states undeclared: the winner of the US election is still uncertain.

Yet, Donald Trump has prematurely tried to claim victory before the votes are counted. This means that right now, democracy in the US hangs in the balance.

If leaders across the world refuse to engage with any attempt to sideline the will of the American people - then any attempt to grab the presidency before votes are counted will be weakened.

Together we can encourage Boris Johnson, and the UK government to take a firm stand for democracy by calling on them to wait for all votes to be counted before recognising the next US President. Will you sign the petition now?
