Why is this important?
Arcadia - the owner of highstreet chains including Topshop and Dorothy Perkins - is on the verge of collapse. 13,000 long-serving employees look set to lose their jobs. And thousands of staff’s pensions are at risk.
MPs and trade unions are calling on Arcadia boss Philip Green to use his vast £930 million personal fortune to plug the £350 million shortfall in the pension scheme. So thousands of hardworking employees don’t lose out on the retirement income they deserve.
Green has a history of trying to wriggle out of paying into his employees’ pension pots. When his chain BHS collapsed in 2016, it took almost a year - and a huge amount of public pressure - before he agreed to pay up so that his former employees didn’t lose out. But he caved then - and we can make him do it again!
