Approving the mine would mean extracting 2.5 million tonnes of coal per year up to 2070 and goes against the climate goals in the Paris agreement.
Cumbria County Council has pledged to become carbon neutral, for this pledge to be meanigful the mine should not be approved.
If we are to avoid catastophic climate change, we need to invest in clean energy, clean steel and clean jobs, not dirty coal mines.
