To Prime Minister Theresa May
Changing the rules like this is a blatant attempt to give yourself more power to force laws through. This is anti-democratic, and disrespectful of the role of parliament.
Therefore, please withdraw next week's Nomination of Members to Committees motion, and please stick to the established rules.
Why is this important?
Committees in parliament play a hugely important role. A cross party group of MPs scrutinise, and amend all potential new laws in parliament. This move would create a back-door around the Committee of Selection - parliamentary officials that traditionally choose which MPs are on these committees.
Theresa May is worried that after June's election she won't be able to pass laws the usual way through parliament. So by flooding these committees with loyal MPs she can bypass scrutiny and force things through.
Let's tell Theresa May she shouldn't be allowed to change the rules of parliament to force laws through the back door. Sign the petition now and tell her to drop her plans.
