Why is this important?
When people go in the red it can cost them huge amounts in bank charges. For someone already struggling to make ends meet, having to fork out an extra £90 a month to their bank can be devastating. Banks are making billions of pounds a year through these unfair charges without any care for what they're doing to people's lives. And at the moment they're getting away with it.
But the banking watchdog, the Financial Conduct Authority, could put a stop to all of this and end unfair bank charges for good - they're seriously considering it as an option. All that's missing is a huge wave of public pressure, and that's where we come in.
