Don't give public money to anti-abortion groups, give the 'tampon tax' money to other women's charities instead

Why is this important?

The government announced this week that they are going to give some of our tax money to an anti-abortion group. It’s money that comes from the “tampon tax”, the extra money we pay on sanitary products. Money that the government promised would go to charities that help women.

But instead of helping women, the government’s decided to give one of the biggest amounts - £250,000 - to an anti-abortion group who give one-sided advice to women, instead of providing a fair service. It puts even more pressure on women who are already dealing with a really tough decision.

If you think that our tax money shouldn’t be supporting anti-abortion groups, then please sign the petition now.

Can you send a quick email to the Dept for Culture Media and Sport to ask them to re-think their decision to give tax money to an anti-abortion group.

Here are some things you could mention in your email, but feel free to put it in your own words or add your own points.

  • The 'tampon tax' money was supposed to be spent on organisations that help all women.
  • The charity 'Life' who are being granted £250,000 have been exposed as offering biased advice to women. It says on their website that their mission is to "speak out against abortion", so it's hard to imagine that they are offering impartial counselling to women.
  • There are hundreds of other charities which support women that the money could be given to instead.
  • It's not fair to spend our tax money on biased groups, and it's not what we were promised.
